Dear members of the Shreveport Moose Family Center

Your organization has a history of supporting the Fire Department and other institutions of public service, and I know that you do not take this award lightly.

It is with abundant humility and extreme appreciation that I accept this service award with which you have chosen to honor me. Any accolades or tributes that someone may deem appropriate to cast in my direction are possible only because of  those persons who have been a part of my life since my beginning. I am fortunate to have been born to two loving parents who taught me as a child the importance of living right and of always performing to the best of my ability.

Their influence on my being is paramount. As a young adult, I gained employment with the Shreveport Fire Department and immediately became connected with men who cared about me and led me down the path that ultimately got me to where I am today.

The influence that these men have had on my life has been vital to my success.

Today I am privileged to have a quality of staff working committed toward the excellence of the Shreveport Fire Department. Nothing I accomplish is  possible without them. It is to these people - these people who have influenced my life so greatly and those who have borne the brunt of the work - that I owe my career achievements.

And I must not forget my family - my wife and children. They have supported me through the years, endured my many absences (and, of late, my blackberry).

My family has made it easy to offer to the Fire Department a level of dedication necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.

Their support has been an important part of my success. While the acknowledgements could go on and on, I choose to end it on the thought:

Not one person could be named who has had such an impact on my life as Jesus Christ. Without Him, I am indeed nothing; but, with Him, I can be everything.

This award, which you have given me, basically says
"Job well done." It is my life's goal to, one day, hear the same from my Lord Savior.

God Bless You All,

Deputy Chief Tom Self
